Amsterdam, Netherlands | 06:00 AM |
Amsterdam, Netherlands
Amsterdam, the beautiful capital of the Netherlands, has the wonderful atmosphere of a 17th-century city combined with the contemporary character of a modern metropolis. It is a treasure chest of superb architecture and is famous for its canals and extraordinary museums.
Once you arrive on your cruise to Amsterdam, be sure to catch the city’s highlights, especially the iconic houses that straddle the snaking canal system of which the city is known for. When in Amsterdam, do as the Dutch and discover this first-class city on two wheels as this is one of the most bike-friendly places on the planet. When it comes to viewing the world’s great artistic masterpieces, you could hardly pick a better city.
Pay a visit to the famous Van Gogh Museum and ponder the works of Holland’s favorite son. Afterwards, pop into a cozy cafe or tavern and let the charms of this city wash over you.
Ronne, Bornholm, Denmark
Nestled in the glittering blue waters of the Baltic Sea between Denmark, Sweden, Germany and Poland, Bornholm is a favorite getaway among Scandinavians craving a break from the bustle of city life. This idyllic Danish isle goes by many names, too — some call it “Sunshine Island” because of its clear blue skies and mild weather, and “Rock Island” because of its dramatic granite formations, which store heat during the summer.
St. Petersburg, Russia
Although reportedly built to resemble such Western cities as London, Paris, and Vienna, one look at St. Petersburg's regal palaces and vast public squares is enough to
tell you that it is truly in a class of its own. This grand city has always been entrenched and largely defined by its proximity to water. The Neva River snakes and bisects this city at every turn, necessitating the building of some 342 bridges to navigate pedestrian, motorist and boat traffic.
Dubbed ‘The Venice of Russia’, there’s a wealth of history and culture to experience on a cruise to St. Petersburg, Russia. As a central location for the world’s greatest works of art, St. Petersburg has few rivals. The Russian Museum, where the city’s greatest works are housed, is a must visit as it spreads out over 4 lavish palaces still intact from its Tsarist past.
Peter the Great, of whom the city gets its namesake, sought to make St. Petersburg the imperial seat of Russia and a showcase city built largely by the best European architects that money could buy and his vision is still very much preserved throughout every inch of this memorable city. If you're in St. Petersburg in June, you'll be able to catch the city's famous "white nights," when the boundless night sky is never completely dark.
Tallinn, Estonia
Tallinn has remained remarkably unchanged since its founding in 1154 A.D. The preservation of this city’s old world charm enables visitors to enjoy architectural marvels of centuries past, such as the soaring towers of Toompea Castle and the exquisite Russian Orthodox Cathedral. The exception is the delightfully modern pink Parliament building, visible from Palace Square.
With a boisterous nightlife, Tallinn stands as one of the most exciting cities of the former Soviet Union. Here, ancient church spires and baroque architecture intermingle with modern glass buildings that echo the many influences and cultures that have left their imprint throughout the centuries. There are so many amazing sites to explore on your Tallinn cruise.
Visit the imaginative Estonian Open-Air Museum, where ancient structures are arranged among the trees complete with actors in period garb. People watching doesn’t get much better than what you’ll find in Town Hall Square and if it’s animals you’d rather observe, visit the Tallinn Zoo where over 350 different species are housed.
Helsinki, Finland
Occupying a peninsula and several islands, this capital city's stunning structures surround some of the most spectacular bays you could ever hope to find. Stroll down broad, tree-lined streets, or take in the amazing neo-classically designed architecture in Senate Square.
Stockholm, Sweden
No fewer than 50 bridges connect this Swedish capital’s 14 islands to its mainland. The country is modern, dynamic, and ever-evolving. It may be liberal and forward-looking when it comes to the collective attitude, but it’s rich in history too. On your Europe cruise, visit the many parks, museums, and palaces or make your way through Gamla Stan, or Old Town, packed with historic buildings, shops, and cafés. The world’s first open-air museum, Skansen, is here, located on the island of Royal Djurgården and there’s the fascinating maritime Vasa Museum in town.
Copenhagen, Denmark
Whether strolling through blooming flowers in Tivoli Gardens, witnessing the changing of the guard at Amalienborg Palace, or touring Kronborg Castle—the setting of Shakespeare's Hamlet—it's easy to see why Copenhagen grew to become the capital of Denmark. And, if you believe all the survey reports about this cheerful city, not only will you find yourself in one of the most cosmopolitan Nordic capitals on this Copenhagen cruise, but you’ll be elbow to elbow with some of the happiest locals on Earth.
With picturesque townhouses splashed in more color than a box of crayons, this delightful Dutch destination has a real flair for design. As you amble through the streets of Copenhagen you may begin to experience ‘hygge’-- a concept of gentle, soothing coziness, and comfort that’s infused in the lifestyle and culture.
The quaint cobblestone streets, scenic landscapes, and charming cafes will attest to the country’s dedication to this concept of welcoming warmth and kindness. Relax on a short boat ride down its waterways passed scenic landmarks old and new. And, depending on the time of year, you may just catch many of the exhibits and works of art on public display in the city parks, gardens, and zoos.
The Ship: Celebrity Apex
Celebrity ApexSM is the second ship in our highly anticipated Edge® series. With an innovative outward-facing design and visionary spaces that stand apart from anything else at sea (with the exception of her equally stunning sister, Celebrity Edge®, of course), Celebrity ApexSM will revolutionize the way you experience the world. Discover the unparalleled luxury of The Retreat, exclusively for all suite guests. Unwind in transformational accommodations that blur the boundaries between indoor and outdoor living. Soar above the sea on the Magic Carpet. Surrender to the carefree pleasures of the Rooftop Garden. And embark on a culinary journey through an unrivaled collection of restaurants, bars, and lounges. Celebrity Apex will sail the sparkling Mediterranean from Southampton, beginning in April 2020, and the sun-soaked Caribbean from Ft. Lauderdale, beginning in November 2020.
Ship Features:
Rooftop Garden: The Rooftop Garden is full of unexpected pleasures day and night. Find a cozy chair, sink in, and get lost in a good book. Sip a refreshing cocktail as you gaze out over the open ocean. Satisfy your cravings with gourmet burgers, brisket, and BBQ at the Rooftop Garden Grill. Drift away to the rhythm of live musical performances coming down to you from treetop sculptures. Get caught up in a friendly game of giant chess with fellow vacationers.
Pool Deck: Designed by Tom Wright, the Celebrity Edge main pool and surrounding areas showcase the terraced Pool Deck—a stunning asymmetrical space that makes ocean views and landscapes the focal point.
At the center of this space is a 25-yard lap pool, the largest in our fleet, featuring in-pool loungers. Positioned magnificently above the Pool Bar is an oversized and ever-changing mirror installation. Along with unique tree sculptures that add an air of whimsy, it’s part of a remarkable poolside gallery that sets this space apart from any other at sea.
Another attention-grabbing addition to the pool deck—and another first for Celebrity—are two striking, two-story martini hot tubs, that take unwinding at sea to new heights.
Private Cabanas: Just off the pool deck are the outward-facing, private cabanas. Spacious (165 square feet) and airy (more than 18 feet high), these luxurious coves invite you to climb in and get lost in the plush seating and incredible views of the sea. At night, ambient lighting turns the cabanas into intimate spaces perfect for enjoying cocktails and the moonlight glimmering off the ocean.
The Solarium: The Solarium now features a three-dimensional art wall that represents the beautiful colors and movement of the ocean. It’s the perfect complement to the serene atmosphere where you can restore both your tan and your sanity.
A Taste of Film: Catch a movie at A Taste of Film for an interactive fusion of food and film. Dance the night away as a live band plays your favorite songs. Or just lie back on a comfy lounger and gaze up at the sea of stars above you as you glide over the sea below.
The Magic Carpet: The Magic Carpet is designed with comfortable seating, a full bar, and space for live music performances. Depending on the positioning, its mood and function changes—providing exciting new venues, incredible visual perspectives, and a distinct experience on every deck it visits.
At the very top of the ship, the Magic Carpet becomes an extraordinary venue high in the sky where mouthwatering experiences such as Dinner on the Edge are hosted. Down to Deck 14, the Magic Carpet becomes a stunning extension of the main pool area, while on Deck 5, it serves as an unforgettable, open-air dining experience. Then at the bottom on Deck 2, the Magic Carpet becomes an extension of modern luxury at The Destination Gateway.
Eden: Eden, like so many aspects of Celebrity Edge, represents another revolution in modern luxury travel. It’s a space where nature is so present, it is "a room that lives." It’s an experience so multi-faceted and innovative, you won’t find anything else like it at sea. No two visits to Eden are ever the same.
